End Malaria Program: The overall objective of the End Malaria Program (EMP) activity is to improve health outcomes for Zambians by expanding access to effective measures for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of malaria in the four high-burden provinces of Luapula, Northern, Muchinga, and Eastern. A select number of districts in Eastern Province will receive special earmarked funds for preelimination activities, beginning with Sinda, Katete, Chadiza, Petauke and Chipata, and potentially increasing in number as gains are consolidated. The EMP activity will increase access to quality malaria control interventions as measured by a reduction in malaria parasite prevalence in children under five years old and a reduction in the number of malaria deaths and cases in targeted provinces. The activity will align strategically with the National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan (NMESP) 2017-2021 and the forthcoming, updated NMESP 2022-2027. The EMP will be a key partner in the PMI endeavor to support malaria control in Zambia. The EMP will strengthen the Ministry of Health (MOH) capacity to implement the NMESP at national, provincial, district, and community levels. This activity will build strong effective partnerships with communities, civil society, health facilities, District Health Departments, Provincial Health Departments, the private sector, and cooperating partners to scale-up and maintain internationally accepted strategies to fight malaria.
