Additional Information on Eligibility
Elibibility is Limited: Applications may be submitted only by the Iowa Department of Health. No other applications are solicited. Funding for this project continues to be allocated annually and there has been no change in precedence. This RFA will allow for the ongoing pilot projects to continue. Iowa has devoted substantial time, commitment and resources to the initial phase of this pilot project. The Iowa birth defects registry provides an ideal infrastructure for conducting the pilot project and for the continuation of activities.
Grant Description
The purpose of the program is to build upon the implementation of pilot projects designed to evaluate the feasibility of expanding a population-based birth defects surveillance to incorporate data from existing records on stillbirths. The ongoing purpose of the program is to:1. Monitor and report, as feasible, on the occurrence of fetal deaths in the study population; 2. Serve as a registry for etiologic studies of fetal deaths (note that no research studies are planned under this project); and3. Serve as a resource for education and evaluation of prevention programs that aim to reduce the occurrence of fetal deaths (note that no specific prevention programs designed to reduce the occurrence of stillbirths are planned under this study).
