APOL1 Long-term Kidney Transplantation Outcomes Network Scientific and Data Research Center (APOLLO SDRC) (Collaborative U01): This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites cooperative agreement applications to establish a multi-disciplinary group of investigators to be known as the APOL1 Long-term Kidney Transplantation Outcomes Research Network (APOLLO) Scientific Data Research Center (SDRC), and runs in parallel with a separate FOA that invites applications for the APOLLO Clinical Centers (CCs) (RFA-DK-16-025). The APOLLO Network consortium will design and conduct studies of a comprehensive, prospective longitudinal cohort to determine the impact of APOL1 genetic variants as susceptibility factors in US kidney transplant recipients who received kidneys from African-American donors. In addition, the consortium will follow the course of African-American kidney donors. Primary outcomes are the rate of change of kidney function in recipients, and rates of acute rejection of the kidney transplant, graft failure, and return to maintenance dialysis rates in the recipients. Outcomes in donors, including vital and renal functional status, will be assessed to the greatest extent possible.
