African Regional Democracy Fund for Mali: The U.S. Embassy Bamako announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out projects through the African Regional Democracy Fund. Please follow all instructions below. Priority Regions: Kidal, Taoudenni, Gao, Timbouctou, and Menaka Program Objectives: The program aims to support Malian civil society organizations – especially those representing youth, women, internally displaced persons, and other historically underserved groups –build support for policies and approaches that protect human rights, reduce corruption, bolster civic participation, and ensure fundamental freedoms. Objective 1: Build and strengthen civil society capacity – particularly those representing underrepresented voices – in Mali's five northern regions (Kidal, Taoudenni, Gao, Timbuktu, and Menaka) to advocate for democratic principles and practices, including freedom of movement and expression without harassment, during and following Mali's transition period. Objective 2: Bolster transparency and accountability of Mali's electoral processes and institutional reforms through increased communication and collaboration between civil society stakeholders and transition authorities.
