Availability of Federal Assistance, Partners for Fisheries Monitoring Program Call for Proposals - Social Scientist.: The Department of the Interior, Office of Subsistence Management, coordinates the Partners for Fisheries Monitoring Program. The Partners Program (Catalog of Federal and Domestic Assistance Pseudo Code # 15. FFA) directly supports and funds fishery biologists and social scientist positions performing duties within tribal or rural organizations in Alaska. Partners work to ensure that the highest priority subsistence needs are addressed by developing valuable and scientifically sound fisheries monitoring projects. They communicate project results to various audiences (Federal Subsistence Board, Regional Advisory Councils, Office of Subsistence Management, and regional organizations) and help rural residents effectively participate in the fishery management process. The United States Fish & Wildlife Service (Service), Office of Subsistence Management, invites applications for a Social Scientist through submission of proposals. This is the second call for federal assistance in the Partners for Fisheries Monitoring Program. The new call outlines the funding opportunity, award information, eligibility information, application and submission information, application review, award administration, and agency contacts. Proposals are to be submitted to the Office of Subsistence Management by November 26, 2003. The Office of Subsistence Management will develop a cooperative agreement to fill a social scientist position in the Partners for Fisheries Monitoring Program. The new position will join current Partners positions including one social scientist and six fishery biologists. Currently, positions are filled with the Association of Village Council Presidents, Bristol Bay Native Association, Council of Athabascan Tribal Governments, Kuskokwim Native Association, Native Village of Eyak, and Tanana Chiefs Conference. The hiring of both fishery biologists and social scientists emphasizes the disciplinary diversity of the Fisheries Resource Monitoring Program.
