Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration 2.0: The purpose of this FOA is to test a model of quality clinical care addressing childhood obesity for U.S. low-income children, especially those enrolled in or eligible for health care coverage under the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) or Medicaid. Specifically, the purpose of this FOA is to implement and test the ability of a model of clinical childhood obesity management along with a EHR-referral-based, family-centered pediatric weight management program, to reduce body mass index (BMI) in children with obesity, or overweight with risks (including, e.g., medical and behavioral risks, and family history). Health outcomes of interest include measurable changes in BMI, nutrition and physical activity behaviors, health care satisfaction and service delivery, and quality of life. This will be accomplished through optimized pediatric care:
1) Implementation and evaluation of a EHR-referral-based, structured, intensive family-centered weight management program in the clinic or community;
2. Collaboration with state CHIP offices to advise a state-wide or regional level project and to be part of a stakeholder group that can help generate suitable
recommendations for sustainability and program components to be further replicated or scaled.
