Community-Based Participatory Research at NIMH (R21): -Purpose. The ultimate goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support research partnerships between community-based, clinical/services settings and research institutions to reduce the burden of mental illness, behavioral disorders and HIV/AIDS through research on mind, brain, and behavior. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will use the NIH Exploratory/Developmental (R21) award mechanism and runs in parallel with an FOA of similar scientific scope that solicits applications under the Research Project Grant (R01) mechanism and will be issued at a later date. R01 applications may only be submitted by awardees of this R21 FOA. The R01 application must build on, and further develop the pilot research, resources, and collaborations developed in the R21. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the quality, duration, and costs of the applications received.
