Conservation and Restoration of the Historical and Traditional Hammam (Public Bath) of Erbil Citadel: The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad invites eligible organizations to submit proposals to provide logistical support to the High Commission for Erbil Citadel Revitalization (HCECR) in safeguarding the historical and traditional Hammam (public bath) at the World Heritage Site of the Erbil Citadel. The importance of the nominated building (Hammam of Erbil Citadel B27/2) resides in its historical value in addition to its distinctive authentic architectural layout and features. The project's overall goal is to contribute the conservation and sustainable management of Erbil Citadel through implementing conservation and restoration activities on this building, thus ensuring the revitalization of Erbil Citadel in the long term. The duration of the project is expected to last 18 months, after which the building will be rehabilitated as a traditional public bath. The Governments of Iraq and the United States are jointly committed through the U.S.-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement to the establishment of affiliations between Iraqi and U.S. institutions to protect Iraqi Cultural Heritage. Subject to the availability of funds, the Embassy expects to award one award for up to $500,000 to carry out conservation, restoration and rehabilitation of the building, and prepare it for future rehabilitation and adaptive re-use.
