Development of New tools for Computational Analysis of Human Microbiome Project Data (R21): -Purpose. The National Institutes of Health solicits applications to develop new and improved computational tools for the analysis, interpretation and validation of data generated from the Human Microbiome Program. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the NIH Exploratory/Development grant (R21) award mechanism and runs in parallel with an FOA of identical scientific scope, RFA-RM-08-008, that solicits applications under the R01 mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. $1.5 million is available in FY08 for this FOA and the parallel R01 FOA in combination. It is anticipated that 2-4 R21 grants and 1-4 R01 grants will be awarded. R21 applications may request up to $275,000 direct costs over 2 years, with no more than $200,000 in direct costs allowed in any single year. The R21 is not renewable Budgets will be negotiated to optimize the number of awards that can be made. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent on the availability of funds and the receipt of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. -This FOA will be reissued at least once more by 2010.
