Additional Information on Eligibility
Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply. Eligible agencies of the Federal Government are eligible to apply. For the purposes of this Request for Applications, eligible CAM and conventional institutions are defined in the following manner: An eligible CAM institution is a nationally or regionally accredited academic, health care or research institution with a primary goal of educating students to be CAM practitioners. Documentation of accreditation must be included in the application. Students who matriculate from the program must do so with either a degree or certificate in a designated CAM practice that is licensed or certified at the state level. Eligible institutions include but are not limited to colleges/schools of naturopathy, chiropractic, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and massage. For the purposes of this initiative, osteopathic medical institutions that teach manual manipulation as part of the core curriculum requ! ired for all students may collaborate with an eligible allopathic institution (i.e., one that receives at least $10 million annually in NIH funding, as described above). An eligible conventional institution is an academic, health care and/or research institution with a tradition of rigorous biomedical or behavioral research that does not have as a primary goal training of CAM practitioners. Conventional institutions participating in this initiative must have a history of successfully competing for biomedical or behavioral research funding. For the purposes of this initiative, institutions receiving at least $10 million annually in NIH funding will be considered qualified. A list of NIH award levels by institution is available from the NIH Office of Extramural Research at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/award. Funding level is used here as a proxy for research experience and focus of the conventional institution. Applicants wishing to include an institution that rece! ives a lower level of NIH funding as the conventional collaborator m ust contact NCCAM staff for prior permission.
