Direct On-chip Digital Optical Synthesizer (DODOS): DARPA is soliciting innovative research proposals in the area of chip-scale optical frequency synthesis, providing a pure-tone optical output with a precise and accurate frequency relationship to a reference radio-frequency input. The program seeks to address challenges associated with realizing an integrated optical frequency synthesizer with unprecedented reductions in cost, size, weight, and power (CSWaP). The main objective of the Direct On-chip Digital Optical Synthesizer (DODOS) program is the development of the necessary component technologies and integration into a robust, compact, low-SWaP device. See the full DARPA-BAA-14-31 document attached.
