Expanding Efforts and Strategies to Prevent and Control TB including Multidrug-Resistant TB, and TB in vulnerable populations: The purpose of the program is to announce the availability of fiscal year (FY) 2014 funds for a cooperative agreement to expand efforts and strategies to prevent and control tuberculosis (TB) and the intersecting epidemics of TB and HIV (TB/HIV). The purpose of the program is to implement activities to assist national governments, regional authorities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), private and public health care systems, donors, and other interested partners to develop, establish, and coordinate systems and procedures to strengthen TB treatment and control efforts worldwide. This will be accomplished by establishing collaborations with Ministries of Health and other partners ( e.g., TB, HIV/AIDS, and other programs) decreasing the burden of TB in adults and children, persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWA) and other at risk populations. These collaborative activities will ensure the implementation of treatment and control activities that are designed to develop, establish, and coordinate systems and procedures to address the obstacles to achieving control of TB, including drug-resistant TB and TB/HIV. Measurable outcomes of program progress will be in alignment with the following performance goal for the National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP): “Increase the percentage of TB patients (this includes MDR-TB) who complete a course of curative TB treatment within 12 months of initiation of treatment (some patients require more than 12 months).” This program addresses the “Healthy People 2020” focus area of TB reduction. Healthy People 2020 requirements are not applicable to foreign entities.
