FY 2006 Multistate Conservation Grants: The Multistate Conservation Grant Program process runs from January to December of 2005 to determine projects that will be awarded grant funding in January 2006. The annual schedule kicks off in mid-January with a request by the International Association for Fish and Wildlife Agencies for National Conservation Need (NCNs). NCNs are used by the IAFWA to establish priorities and directions for project development and proposal selection later in the year. IAFWA committees, Regional Associations, and interested NGOs are all strongly encouraged to participate in the NCN process, which culminates in the selection of NCNs in mid-March by the Directors of the state and provincial fish and wildlife agencies. By mid-April, an announcement is released by the IAFWA requesting the submittal of project proposals that address all, or a portion of a NCN. Project proposals are submitted to IAFWA around mid-June. Eligible proposals are ranked by IAFWA committees and interested nongovernmental organizations during the summer and committee rankings are submitted to the IAFWA's Committee on National Grants. A final list of priority projects, approved by Committee on National Grants, is adopted by the State Directors at the IAFWAs Annual Meeting in September. The IAFWA's list of priority projects is recommended to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for funding under the Multistate Conservation Grant Program. The USFWS publishes the list of priority projects as recommended by the IAFWA, determines the final project funding, administers the grants and manages and reports on grant products through iFAIMS at http://faims.fws.gov.
