Gaza 2020: Health Matters: USAID seeks to improve the resilience of the health sector in Gaza by increasing access to and the quality of emergency and essential health services provided by non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), and private providers in Gaza consistent with the goals and objectives of the Palestinian Authority (PA) and USAID. Gaza 2020: Health Matters is intended to improve emergency preparedness in the health sector and enhance the capacity for a rapid response in the event of a crisis. This program will seek to strengthen health networks, with a particular focus on improving psychosocial support, nutritional status of women and children and triage for key hospital services in a post-war setting. Health Matters specific goals include both emergency and essential health needs as follows: ● To increase access to and availability of health-related humanitarian goods and services during emergency situations; and ● To expand access to essential primary and secondary health services to improve the resilience of the non-governmental health sector. This is a five year activity, with a total estimated cost of $50 million, subject to the availability of funds. Health Matters contributes to the Mission's Gaza 2020 project goal to increase the resilience of communities in Gaza. The Gaza 2020 Mission Strategy has three intermediate results (IRs) and the Program described here contributes to two of those IRs: IR 1:1 increased access to humanitarian goods and services, and IR2 improved access and utilization of quality social services.
