Genetic Basis of Recovery and Rehabilitation: The ultimate purpose of this initiative is to use molecular genetic approaches to better understand the basis for rehabilitation and recovery. A screening of genomic alleles among affected individuals could help identify genes in key neurodevelopmental or musculoskeletal pathways that correlate with rehabilitative outcome. It is also possible that studies of known allelic differences in other physiological systems would have particular relevance when examined in the context of rehabilitative outcomes. Genomic screening may suggest novel targets for therapeutic interventions and would have significant prognostic value in targeting rehabilitative therapies to the individual, improving clinical efficacy and avoiding rare idiosyncratic contraindications.
