Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research Centers: CDC s Procurement and Grants Office has published a program announcement entitled, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research Centers. Approximately $14,000,000 will be available in fiscal year 2004 to fund 18 to schools of public health, medicine or osteopathy. The purpose of the program is to create a network of health centers to conduct applied public health research. These research centers will: (1) focus on the major causes of death and disability, (2) improve public health practice within communities, and (3) cultivate effective state and local public health programs.
