Inspiring Social Good through Theatre: Grantee will work closely with the consulate to identify a local partner organization such as a theatre group or acting school for a pool of writers/actors to participate in the play's development and performance. Themes of the play could range from inclusion, tolerance, and human rights to the environment and gender equity and justice. The final production could be a single play on a single or multiple issues, or it could be a series of shorter skits/monologues on multiple themes. In consultation with the U.S. Consulate Mumbai, the grantee will identify a U.S. playwright or theatre professor who would travel to Mumbai to mentor the Indian partner group to develop script(s) and staging. The grantee will also organize one grand-opening live performance of the piece at a local theatre or other venue as well as organize at least five subsequent performances that suitable venues within six months.
