International Research Collaboration on Drug Addiction (R21): -Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA)solicits collaborative research proposals on drug abuse and addiction that take advantage of special opportunities that exist outside the United States. Special opportunities include access to unusual talent, resources, populations, or environmental conditions in other countries that will speed scientific discovery. Projects must have relevance to the mission of NIDA and where feasible should address NIDA s scientific priority areas. While the priorities will change from year to year, in FY07 priority areas include: linkages between HIV/AIDS and drug abuse, methamphetamine abuse, inhalant abuse, smoking during pregnancy, and drugs and driving. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will use the NIH Small Research Grant (R21) award mechanism and runs in parallel with an FOA of identical scientific scope, PA-07-275, that solicits applications under the traditional research project grant (R01), and PA-07-311, that solicits applications under the small research grant (R03) mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
