Limited Competition for the Continuation of the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Clinical Centers (U01): The purpose of this Limited Competition is to extend the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Study by continuing to support Clinical Centers that have previously enrolled and followed study participants. The CRIC Study is a multi-center, prospective, observational cohort study of men and women with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The operational components of the study include seven Clinical Centers and a Scientific and Data Coordinating Center (SDCC). The CRIC Study, established in 2001, has recruited approximately 5,500 study participants and followed them with annual in-person clinic visits and interim telephone contacts. The primary objective of this FOA is to continue the follow-up of enrolled participants with a focus on developing novel methods for clinical assessment of CKD and associated cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. The expectation is that these novel assessment methods, combined with new analytic approaches, will identify endophenotypes of CKD, develop associations with CKD progression and acute kidney injury, and more fully characterize these diseases and their associated cardiovascular sequalae. It is anticipated that these studies will provide important insights into the courses and consequences of both CKD and CVD for health care providers and their patients with CKD to improve their management, including informing future clinical trials to reduce the burden of these chronic and varied diseases.
