Long Term MCH Training: LEND Expansion: LEND programs applying for an expansion grant in this competition must demonstrate that proposed interdisciplinary training opportunities in autism will increase diagnosis of or rule out individuals with ASD. Trainees in these programs should receive an appropriate balance of academic, clinical, and community opportunities; are culturally competent; are ethnically diverse; demonstrate a capacity to evaluate, diagnose or rule out, develop, and provide evidence-based interventions to individuals with autism spectrum disorder; and demonstrate an ability to use a family-centered approach (Combating Autism Act of 2005, Sec. 399BB, (e)(1)(A)(B)). Applicants should conduct a needs assessment that documents existing infrastructure to conduct autism activities and how expansion grant funding will build training capacity. Funding for this expansion should primarily support the training of medium and long-term trainees who will be able to confirm or rule out a diagnosis of ASD, provide evidence-based interventions for individuals with ASD, and participate in research into the development and validation of reliable screening tools for ASD and disseminate information regarding those screening tools.
