Materials World Modules Outreach Program - Nationwide: Material World Modules (MWM)Outreach Program is designed to attract middle and high school students to a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The program was designed by Northwestern University under an NSF grant using materials science in a hands-on inquiry based teaching method. This three-year grant will establish a national MWM center and provide modules for deployment of MWM nation-wide.DoD has piloted Material World Modules, a hands-on interdisciplinary materials science program, in middle and high schools adjacent to several DoD laboratories since 2003. The planned three expansion of MWM is one component of a Director, Defense Research & Engineering (DDR&E) initiative to build capacity i science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The national MWM center will provide support and modules to state MWM centers for deployment in their respective states.
