Mentorship and Training of the Somalia National Army (SNA) and the Africa Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) Troop Contributing Countries (TCC): The international community supports the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), a regional peace enforcement mission authorized by the United Nations Security Council under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. Presently Uganda, Burundi, Kenya, Djibouti, and Ethiopia are Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) to the military component of the Mission; Uganda, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa contribute to the police component. The awardee, in coordination with the Ugandan Peoples Defense Force (UPDF) Contingent, will provide the Mission with specialists, accepted by the Force Headquarters as Experts on Mission, per Section VII of the African Union Convention and Chapter VI of the Status of Mission Agreement on AMISOM between the Federal Government of Somalia and the African Union. This structure will remain unchanged under this Cooperative Agreement. Through its implementing partners, the United States has been providing mentorship and training support to AMISOM TCCs and the Somali National Army (SNA), primarily focused on Danab, since 2010. This project is intended to continue to build on those earlier activities, in order to enable Somali and African Union partners to execute their required tasks more effectively, and work towards the stabilization of southern and central Somalia.
