Minority AIDS Initiative Programs for Part A Grantees: The over-arching purpose of MAI grant programs is to evaluate and address the disproportionate impact of HIV/AIDS on, and the disparities in access, treatment, care, and outcomes for, racial and ethnic minorites (including African American, Alaska Natives, Latinos, American Indian, Asian American, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders)Part A MAI funding is a new competitive supplement grant program to improve HIV-related health outcomes to reduce existing racial and ethnic health desparities.

Only the EMAs and TGAs that received a Part A award for FY 2007 are eligible to apply for FY 2007 MAI funds. EMAs are metropolitan areas with a population of 50,000 or more that have reported to the CDC a cumulative total of more than 2,000 cases of AIDS during the most recent 5 calendar years for which such data are available. TGAs are metropolitan areas with a population of 50,000 or more that have reported to the CDC a total of at least 1,000, but fewer than 2,000, cases of AIDS during the most recent five calendar years for which data are available.
