Molecular Libraries Probe Production Centers Network (MLPCN) (U54) - Limited Competition: -Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will establish a network of screening and probe generation centers that will use high-throughput screening and chemistry to discover small molecules that can be used as new molecular tools to aid the investigation of protein function, signaling pathways and cellular processes that are important to the maintenance of human health and to accelerate the development of new therapeutics. This NIH Roadmap RFA is a limited competition restricted to those applicants to PAR-07-368 (X02) who after review have been invited to submit full U54 applications. -The announcement solicits applications for three types of screening and chemical probe generation centers with complementary capabilities to comprise a research network that will have a high degree of flexibility to address a wide range of biological targets and phenotypes in the production phase of the Molecular Libraries Program (MLP). Applicants may request that a portion of the funds be used for one or more creative, highly innovative research projects whose aim is to advance state of the art in probe generation and thereby enhance the achievement of the overall objectives of the network to deliver advanced research tools and knowledge to the scientific community and to stimulate the adoption of chemical genomics as a new discipline in biomedical research. -The goal of the MLP is to screen compounds in the Small Molecule Repository in biochemical, cell-based and possibly model organism assays, and to identify and subsequently optimize small molecules as research probes. All assay information and data from the MLP will be rapidly made available in PubChem for the research community to use in exploring the function of major components of the cell in health and disease. Applicants may submit an application for a Comprehensive Center, a Specialized Screening Center, or a Specialized Chemistry Center.
