Mount Charleston Blue Butterfly Status Surveys: Currently, the Mount Charleston blue butterfly is listed as endangered under the ESA. A 5-year status review of the species will be completed by the end of FY21 to determine if the species continues to be endangered or if it can be down listed to threatened. At the time of listing, the species was only known to occur in three locations in the Forest Service-managed Spring Mountains National Recreation Area in southern Nevada. Since its listing, surveyors have discovered additional locations where the species occurs, and future survey work may increase the number of locations. In order to support conservation of the species and strike a regulatory balance, we need sound science to inform our upcoming 5-year review of the ESA status of the species. The outcome of this review could potentially affect the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort and its recreational users, as well as users of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, which is managed by the Forest Service.
