NIAMS Clinical Trial Planning Grant (R34): This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will support planning grants for investigator-initiated clinical interventional trials. The R34 planning grant is designed to permit the necessary planning, design, and preparation of documentation prior to implementation of investigator-initiated clinical trials. Completion of the agreed upon milestones of an R34 planning grant is recommended prior to submission of an application through a U01 clinical trial implementation application that will support the actual implementation and conduct of the study. The planning should be intended to support trials that are hypothesis-driven, milestone-defined, and have the potential for high impact within the research mission of the NIAMS.
