National Blood Lead Proficiency Testing Program: The purpose of this program is to improve, nationwide, the performance of laboratories which provide blood lead determinations for childhood lead poisoning prevention programs, and on request provide technical assistance and consultation to health care programs and providers responsible for the treatment and management of children and adults with elevated blood lead levels. The applicant organization must demonstrate: 1) the capacity to prepare, distribute, and process proficiency testing samples for more than 400 participating laboratories; 2) the ability to remain current and knowledgeable in response to advances in blood lead collection and testing technology; and 3) competence in provision of consultation and technical assistance.
