New Methodologies for Natural Products Chemistry (R01): Purpose. This initiative, a component of the NIH Molecular Libraries (ML) Roadmap program (MLP), will support the development of new methodologies for natural products (NP) chemistry. The long-term goal is to reinvigorate the investigation of nature as a prolific source of bioactive small molecules with the potential to probe the roles of a wide range of proteins in cellular processes, and/or be developed into new drugs. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) grant mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NIH intends to commit up to $1.4 million per year (total costs) to support approximately 3-4 grants. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the quality, duration, and costs of the projects that are proposed. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
