New River South End Breach, Curry County, Oregon: Invasive European beach grass has colonized the dunes along New River, building up sand that prevents New River from naturally breaking out and draining Floras Creek and other New River tributaries. Water quality testing has shown preliminary results that water quality is much improved in areas close to past breaches. The project is identified as viable in the BLM Management plan for the New River Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). This breach has been discussed in annual meetings between the BLM and the ranchers group managing lands along New River.
