NextGen-Concepts and Technology Development Project (CTD1): This publication announces the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Headquarters, Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 version of the NASA Research Announcement (NRA) entitled, "Research Opportunities in Aeronautics (ROA)” has been posted on the NSPIRES site. Detailed requirements, including Proposal Due Dates will be stated in Appendices that address individual Thrust Areas. These appendices will be posted as Amendments to the ROA NRA and will be published as requirements materialize throughout the year. The initial release of this ROA 2014 NRA includes two solicitations (CTD1 and CTD2) in Appendix C.2 for foundational research on topics in support of the NextGen- Concepts and Technology Development Project. For both solicitations, NOIs are due January 24, 2014 and proposals are due February 28, 2014. This release includes the following six topics (under CTD1) applicable to the “NextGen – Concepts Technology Development Project”: (1) Methods of Increasing Super-Dense Terminal Airspace Flexibility and Control Authority for NextGen Operations; (2) Integrated Arrival Departure and Surface Scheduling; (3) Feasibility of Using Subscale Vehicles to Flight Test Advanced Air Traffic Management Concepts; (4) Cloud Enabled Business Models to Accelerate Pace of NAS Modernization; (5) Concepts and Technologies to Explore Feasibility of Single Pilot Operations and/or Remotely Piloted Operations for Commercial Carriers; (6) Similar Historical Days and Traffic Flow Management Response Strategies for Future Traffic Management Planning.
