Notice of Intent to Fund two High School/High Tech Demonstration Programs: The U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), intends to award sole source grants of up to $225,000 to the Bethany Public School and $225,000 to the Maryland State Department of Education to continue the implementation of their High School High Tech (HS/HT) Demonstration Programs, currently funded under Awards #E-9-4-3-0066 and #E-9-4-3-0065 respectively. The projects are intended to commence no later than September 30, 2004 and to continue for a period of one year with up to three option years (at up to $225,000 for each fiscal year), dependent on performance and availability of federal funding. USDOL awarded $225,000.00 each to these entities in September 2003 for one-year projects to run through September 2004. Because of the demonstrated progress and achievements made, they have proven their ability to fully meet the policy goals of this pilot project. USDOL is awarding these grants on a sole-source basis because the awards meet the Department?s criteria for non-competitive awards. The purpose of the extended funding period is to continue the implementation of the project for up to four additional years and provide additional research information for the development of policy direction in the area of effective transition practices for youth with disabilities.
