OJJDP FY 2006 AMBER Alert Training and Technical Assistance Program: The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) seeks to continue the training, technical assistance, evaluation, and program management effort for the AMBER Alert Initiative. The AMBER Alert program began in 1996 as a legacy to 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was kidnapped while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas, and then brutally murdered. Dallas-Fort Worth broadcasters teamed with local police to develop an early warning system to solicit the assistance of citizens in the safe recovery of abducted children. AMBER stands for Americas Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response.
