Operations Center of Excellence Support: The U.S. DOT seeks to support the unique online portal and technical support services the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) is developing under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America). The Operations Center of Excellence (OCOE) is being developed as an extension of the enhanced knowledge transfer system (EKTS) currently being developed under FHWA Cooperative Agreement No. DTFH61-10-H-00008 with AASHTO. The OCOE is intended to address the need for a more centralized and comprehensive set of resources to serve the transportation systems management and operations (TSM&O) community. The OCOE will be an extension of the EKTS; expanding upon the extensive collection of technical resources. The OCOE will become an interface for peer interaction and provide a source of in-person events, webinars, and training. The Agreement seeks to maximize the benefits being generated from the EKTS by putting in place an institutional support structure for collecting and disseminating best practice information, identifying research needs and capabilities, as well as providing technical support services throughout. AASHTO will continue to operate, maintain, and upgrade the OCOE and seek further investment and activity from third parties in order to maintain a sustainable operational environment.
