Opportunity RFA-AI-10-006: Purpose. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) invite applications from single institutions and consortia of institutions to participate in this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), Integrated Preclinical/Clinical Program for HIV Topical Microbicides (IPCP-HTM). The purpose of this FOA is to support integrated and iterative multi-project, multi-disciplinary preclinical and exploratory clinical studies with the goal of advancing a safe, effective and acceptable single or combination topical microbicide for the prevention of the sexual transmission of HIV. A minimum of two research projects and an Administrative Core must be proposed. At least one component (research project or scientific core) must be from a private sector for-profit or not-for-profit company. This release of the IPCP-HTM FOA has significant modifications from previous iterations of the IPCP-HTM Program which could affect application responsiveness. Applicants are urged to read the FOA carefully. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the multi-project Cooperative Agreement (U19) award mechanism. FOA, RFA-AI-10-007, soliciting competitive revisions for current IPCP-HTM awards is being published closely with this FOA. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. NIAID and NIMH anticipate making awards for a total of $6 million in FY 2010 for the combination of IPCP-HTM applications under this FOA and applications to RFA-AI-10-007, the Competitive Revision IPCP-HTM FOA.
