Park Planner to Support Deferred Maintenance Projects at Joshua Tree National Park: A.Project Goals â¿¿ Joshua Tree National Park has a need to support park planning both for deferred maintenance projects and to address a doubling in park visitation over the past four years. The park has numerous planning needs to address deferred maintenance and visitor use including an Overnight Use Plan, Trails Management Plan, Climbing Management Plan, and Wilderness Stewardship Strategy. There is a critical need to provide planning support in the way of technical writing, coordination and facilitation of internal and external meetings, project compliance tracking, and oversight of any required mitigation measures. B.Project Objectives â¿¿ A research associate dedicated to planning would consolidate planning efforts, reduce overall review times, and further streamline the compliance process. Tasks to meet goals include: â¿¢Coordination of visitor use data to inform planning efforts. Visitor data includes demographics, economics, recreational preferences, seasonal use patterns, and other similar data to focus park planning areas to meet visitor needs. â¿¢Assist with tracking of deferred maintenance project compliance to maintain timelines and minimize amount of time required to review and approve projects for implementation. â¿¢Assist with coordination of public meetings as needed. Includes room set up, note taking, write up, clean up, summarizing follow up tasks for park staff, and any other administrative aspects of the meeting. Specific assignments are tied to FLREA funded projects such as the Overnight Use Plan, Cottonwood Visitor Center remodel, and West Entrance Fee Booth Relocation. Numerous other smaller facility projects will be assigned as time is available.
