Partnerships for Biodefense Food- and Water-borne Diseases (R01): Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH) invites research applications for projects that support development of therapeutics, immunotherapeutics, medical diagnostics and broad-spectrum vaccines for NIAID Category B food- and water-borne priority pathogens and toxins (http://www3.niaid.nih.gov/topics/BiodefenseRelated/Biodefense/research/CatA.htm). Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the R01 grant mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NIAID intends to commit $7.3 million in total costs in FY2010 to fund five to ten applications in response to this FOA. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary.
