Pathophysiology and Treatment Response in Late-Life Mood and Anxiety Disorders (R01): -The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invite grant applications for research on the pathophysiological aspects of late-life mood and anxiety disorders and on the utility of findings in this research area for developing new treatments or predicting older adults response to existing mental health treatments, and to attract new investigators into interdisciplinary studies of these issues. -Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the mechanism numbers, quality, duration, and costs of the applications received. -This FOA will use the NIH Research Project Grant (R01), but applications for the NIH Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21); the NIH Small Research Grant (R03); and the NIMH Clinical Exploratory Research Grant Program (R34) are also sought. Applicants for the R21, R03, and R34 mechanisms must submit their applications electronically and should respond to the NIH Parent FOA for these mechanisms (NIH R21-PA-06-181; NIH R03-PA-06-180; and the NIMH R34-PA-06-248).
