Phosphorus and Sediment Impact/Cayuga Lake, NY - Request for Proposals (RFP): The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Region 2, Division of Environmental Science and Assessment (DESA), Monitoring and Assessment Branch is soliciting proposals from eligible organizations that will assess the impact of phosphorus and sediment in the northern end of Cayuga Lake, New York State. This funding opportunity supports the Regional Geographic Initiative (RGI) program. The Regional Geographic Initiative funds unique, geographically based projects that fill critical gaps in the Agency's ability to protect human health and the environment. The proposed project must focus on the study of phosphorus and sediment impacts in the northern end of the Cayuga Lake Watershed, with the ultimate aim of a lake-wide assessment and the generation of sufficient data to allow for long-term planning and monitoring for the entire watershed. The project should engage local, state, tribal and federal partners. Proposed projects must focus on improving the ability to assess and report on water quality, and on working toward the development of one or more Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs). EPA expects the proposed project to generate a valid and useful data set, which should help New York State in assessing water quality-related phosphorus and sediment impacts for the lake and the watershed, and provide information on water quality to the state, the Cayuga Nation and the public." The grant includes geospatial information.
