Preterm Birth in Nulliparous Women: An Understudied Population at Great Risk (U10): -Purpose. The purpose of this solicitation is to create a network of clinical research sites with a Data Coordinating and Analysis Center (DCAC) to develop common research protocols to study nulliparous women. The goals of the network are to identify biomarkers and understand the mechanism and prediction of preterm birth in nulliparous women. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the U10 grant mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NICHD intends to commit approximately Total Costs [Direct plus Facilities and Administrative (F and A) costs] of 1.4 million in FY 2010, 3.9 million per year in FY2011-2013, and 4.4 million in FY2014 to fund six to eight new grants in response to this FOA, one of which will be the DCAC.Although the financial plans of the NICHD provide support for this program, awards pursuant to this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the receipt of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
