Preventing HIV/AIDS in Vulnerable Populations: The goal of USAID/SA's “Preventing HIV/AIDS Populations 2018-2023” (PHVP), hereinafter referred to as the Activity, is to accelerate and sustain HIV epidemic control in South Africa through the delivery of high-impact HIV prevention, care and support services. The Activity's objectives are to: 1) Improve the health and wellbeing of OVC, adolescents and youth who are living with, affected by and vulnerable to HIV; 2) Prevent new HIV infections among priority populations; and 3) Scale up effective violence prevention interventions. The Activity will support evidence-based interventions proven to mitigate the impact of HIV on children, adolescents and their families and prevent new infections among AGYW, including those who have experienced violence, as well as among migrant and mobile populations (in select sub-districts). The Activity comprises four core components: Component 1: Orphans, Vulnerable Children, Adolescents and Youth Component 2: School-based HIV Prevention and GBV Prevention Component 3: Community-based Violence Prevention and Linkages to Response· Component 4: Prevention of New HIV Infections Among Priority Populations The Activity builds upon prior investments and achievements to date by the GoSA and USAID HIV prevention, OVC and DREAMS activities and leverages ongoing USAID and other development partner activities. The Activity supports and contributes to the South Africa NSP 2017-2022 goals, in particular Goal #1 - “Accelerate prevention to reduce new HIV and TB infections and STIs”, Goal #3 – “Reach all key and vulnerable populations with customized and targeted interventions”, and Goal #4 – “Address underlying social and structural drivers of HIV, TB, and STIs through integrated multi-sectoral approach”.
