Public Health Traineeships Program: This announcement solicits applications for the Public Health Traineeship (PHT) Program. The purpose of this program is to provide grants to accredited schools of public health and/or other public or nonprofit private institutions accredited for the provision of graduate or specialized training in public health to support traineeships in severe workforce shortage disciplines to eligible individuals enrolled in a post-bachelor¿s degree certificate program, a master¿s program, or a doctoral program in public health. The PHT Program will provide traineeship support to cover the costs associated with tuition, fees, stipends, and allowances (including travel and subsistence expenses and dependency allowances) for students pursuing graduate level education in one of six disciplines (epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, toxicology, nutrition, and maternal and child health), representative of current severe workforce shortage areas as identified in the statutory language. The traineeship support is to encourage students to pursue and continue their training in the public health shortage disciplines identified. Students receiving traineeship support must also participate in public health practice-based field placements particularly in state and local health departments and/or underserved communities as part of their training.
