Reference Epigenome Mapping Centers (U01): The National Institutes of Health invites applications for Reference Epigenome Mapping Centers (REMCs) to develop comprehensive reference epigenomes from human embryonic stem cells (hESC), human differentiating and differentiated cells, cell lines and tissues. A total of $10 million for each of 5 years has been committed, beginning in FY2008. The anticipated number of awards is 3-5. The U01 Cooperative Agreement award mechanism will be used. Eligible organizations include Public/State Controlled Institution of Higher Education, Private Institution of Higher Education, Nonprofit with 501(c)(3) IRS Status (Other than Institution of Higher Education), Nonprofit without 501(c)(3) IRS Status (Other than Institution of Higher Education), Small Business, For-Profit Organization (Other than Small Business), State Government, U.S. Territory or Possession, Indian/Native American Tribal Government (Federally Recognized), Indian/Native American Tribal Government (Other than Federally Recognized), Indian/Native American Tribally Designated Organization Eligible Center Directors include any individual with the skills, knowledge, experience and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH support. More than one Center Director/Principal Investigator (CD/PI), or multiple CDs/PIs, may be designated on this application. Applicants may submit more than one application, provided they are scientifically distinct.

Additional Information on Eligibility
Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply. Domestic applicants are encouraged to form multi-institute consortia to accomplish the stated goals. Applications from foreign institutions are not allowed. However, domestic institutions may include a foreign component, provided the majority of the research projects are based at the domestic institution.
