Regional Workforce Development Program: The purpose of LAC/RSD’s new regional workforce development program is to strengthen the capacity of two- and three-year technical training institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to provide market-relevant quality training to youth from disadvantaged populations for employment. The ultimate goal of the project is that more young people, especially those from disadvantaged populations, obtain new or better employment. New employment is generally referred to as jobs—be it formal, informal, or self-employment—that are held by young people who previously were unemployed or not active in the labor market. “Better employment” is defined as job opportunities in which young people are earning more wages or income, have access to more stable employment, access to safe work environments, are exerting upgraded and market-relevant skills and competencies, and/or have greater opportunity for career advancement.
