Social and Behavioral Interventions to Increase Organ and Tissue Donation: The ultimate goal of this grant program is to increase the donation of solid organs available for transplantation. The specific intent of this program is to support applied research efforts to: i) increase, and improve understanding of how to increase, family consent to organ donation at time of a relative's death; ii) increase, and improve understanding of how to increase, individual consent to donate and/or iii) increase, and improve understanding of how to increase, individual intent to be an organ donor with family notification. Projects may focus on community initiatives to increase public commitment to donation, initiatives to increase living donation, and/or hospital-based efforts to increase family consent for donation. The program will provide support for the evaluation of, or the implementation and evaluation of, highly promising strategies and approaches that can serve as model interventions for increasing organ donation. This grant program is to increase solid organ donation and to improve understanding of how to increase solid organ donation. The goal of the grant program is to assist eligible entities in the evaluation of, or the implementation and evaluation of, highly promising strategies and approaches that can serve as model interventions for increasing solid organ and tissue donation. Projects may focus on community initiatives to increase individual commitment to donation and/or hospital-based efforts to increase consent for donation when a death has occurred.

Eligible applicants include Federally-designated organ procurement organizations (OPOs) and other non-profit private or public entities eligible for funds under Section 377A(b) of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act, 42 U.S.C. Section 274f-1(b). State and local governments, Indian Tribal Governments, institutions of higher education, faith-based and community organizations, Tribal organizations, and other non profit organizations are eligible to apply for these grants. For profit organizations may participate in a grant project as a subcontractor or consortium member, but are not eligible to apply as the applicant institution. As specified in Section 377A(b) of the PHS Act, the Secretary may make peer-reviewed grants to public and nonprofit private entities, including Tribes, Tribal Organizations, faith-based and community based organizations. The application must represent a consortium of a least two type of organizations, a transplant-related organization and a research-related organization.
