Technology Development in Epigenetics (R01): -Purpose. The National Institutes of Health invites applications for stimulating the development of revolutionary epigenetic technologies as part of the Roadmap Epigenomics Program. Transforming technologies are needed to enable researchers to discover and monitor epigenetic events, changes, and alterations related to development and disease. This FOA focuses on innovative research developing new technologies that will significantly change the way that epigenetics research can be performed. A sibling announcement, using the R21 mechanism (RFA-RM-07-012), is focused on similar projects that may not necessarily have preliminary data. In the long term, advances in these areas will enhance our ability to investigate, diagnose and ameliorate human disease with a significant epigenetic component. -Mechanism of Support. The R01 Research Project Grant mechanism will be used for this FOA, which runs in parallel with RFA-RM-07-012 that solicits applications using the R21 mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. These R01s may propose a up to four years of support. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
