The Parametric Optical Processes and Systems (POPS): The purpose of this modification is to revise the Close date from 29 June 2008 (Sunday) to 30 June 2008 (Monday). Original description below. DARPA is soliciting innovative research proposals to demonstrate ultra-high speed optical transmission and wavelength grooming functions based on four wave mixing (FWM) processes in fibers and waveguides. The Parametric Optical Processes and Systems (POPS) program will demonstrate the required functions and components such as wideband amplifiers, wavelength shifting, tunable optical delays, and parametric sampling based on FWM. Proposed research should investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionaryadvances in non-linear fibers and waveguides, design and implementation of FWM-based components with high levels of functionality, and sub-system demonstrations in the targeted data range. The research needed to achieve the goals of the POPS program may be carried out through collaborations between different participants. Specifically excluded is research that primarily results in evolutionary improvements to the existing state of practice. DARPA Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) No. 07-47, entitled Parametric Optical Processes and Systems (POPS), is provided as an attachment to this solicitation notice and includes information on the specific areas of interest; the submission process; proposal formats; evaluation and selection/funding processes; as well as all other pertinent administrative and contractual information. The BAA may be obtained from the FedBizOpps website: http://www.fedbizopps.gov/, Grants.gov website: http://www.grants.gov/, World Wide Web (WWW) at URL http://www.darpa.mil/mto (go to solicitation area) or by fax, electronic mail, or mail request to the administrative contact address given below. Proposals not meeting the format or following the submission instructions described in the BAA may not be reviewed.
