Tools and Technology to Measure Patient Adherence in CAM Research: Phase II Limited Competition (SBIR R44): -Purpose. This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is a limited competition soliciting Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant applications from small business concerns (SBCs) that propose to further enhance or broaden adherence measures for complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) modalities, provide additional validation, and/or assess these technologies in clinical settings. Only SBIR Phase I awardees that were previously funded under RFA-AT-06-002 Tools and Technology to Measure Patient Adherence in CAM Research (SBIR [R43/R44]) are eligible to submit a Phase II SBIR application in response to this FOA. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the SBIR (R44) grant mechanism for Phase II applications. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. For this funding opportunity, NCCAM plans to commit approximately $1.5 M in FY 07 to fund 2 applications to further develop and validate innovative tools, technology and instruments for the accurate assessment of adherence to the use of CAM practices, interventions, and products. Budgets up to $750,000 total costs per year and time periods up to 2 years may be requested. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
