Wildlife Student Professional Development Program: The Wildlife Society (TWS) is a non-profit scientific and educational association dedicated to excellence in wildlife stewardship through science and education. They have been active in supporting the professional development of wildlife students and encouraging diversity among participants. The USFWS's Youth in Natural Resource Careers initiative has a core need of encouraging and developing young people with the appropriate skill sets and interests to become conservation professionals. TWS has a fundamental interest in supporting the professional development of wildlife students and will align this interest with the Department's initiative by employing interns to work with TWS and USFWS; encouraging diversity by sponsoring Native American wildlife students to attend TWS' annual conference; facilitating a blue ribbon panel that will study emerging trends in and challenges to the wildlife profession and implications for training needs of future wildlife professionals; and supporting the TWS annual conference - the largest gathering of wildlife professionals on the North American continent, and a significant venue where students and professionals come together to share cutting edge research and to debate important issues.
