Youth Interns, Digital Media: The National Park Service (NPS) Niobrara National Scenic River (NSR) in Valentine, Nebraska, requests assistance creating, editing and producing digital media (photo, audio, video with closed captioning, content for park web site) as well as providing informal interpretation for river visitors from a solo canoe or kayak or by land at partner sites. The work will be both in an indoor office setting, working with computers and digital media equipment, as well as outdoors, where exposure to river, weather, insect, and other hazards is possible. The positions will be supervised by the Chief of Interpretation & Education at Niobrara NSR.
The NPS seeks an organizational partner who can provide individual interns with advanced experience in digital media production (photo, audio, video, editing and/or authoring web content) as well as oral communication and customer service skills. Interns must provide their own transportation as the housing provided is 5 miles from the duty station and no public transportation is available. The NPS will provide the interns with safety and orientation training, educational experiences, and project leadership for these positions. The organizational partner will not be required to train or supervise the interns.
The long-term goals of the project are:
1) Engage new audiences for Niobrara NSR via social media in relevant ways using digital media.
2) Improve the relevance, usability, and visibility of the Niobrara NSR web presence for all audiences.
3) Offer engaging opportunities for youth to have a work/learning experience with the NPS
