Alcohol, Decision-Making, and Adolescent Brain Development (R01): Purpose. This FOA issued by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institutes of Health, encourages Research Project grants (R01) applications from institutions/organizations that propose to study decision-making processes in adolescents as they relate to drinking behavior, and the role of neural circuitry development in adolescent decision-making and alcohol abuse and dependence. This FOA will utilize the Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism and runs in parallel with an FOA of identical scientific scope, PA-09-096, that encourages applications under the R21 mechanism.
